December 16, 2015 Minutes Special Meeting
A special meeting of the Board of Education of the Creighton Community School District No. 13 was held on December 16, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in the High School Gym.
Notice of the meeting was given in advance thereof by publication in the Creighton News, as shown by the Affidavit of Publication attached to the minutes. Notice was also hung at the City Offices, front door of the high school, and front door of the elementary.
Notice of the meeting was simultaneously sent to all the members and a copy of their acknowledgment and receipt of notice and agenda is attached to these minutes. Availability of the agenda was communicated in the advance notice as was the notice to the members of this meeting. All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was opened to the attendance of the public. The agenda for the meeting is attached and incorporated into these minutes.
President D. Morrill called the meeting to order at 7:37 p.m.
Members present: Dan Morrill, Colleen Farnik, Tim Gragert, Kay Morrill, Gene Suhr, and Dixie Hanefeldt.
Others Present: Superintendent Petersen, Principal Dredge, Secretary Hoffman, and district patrons.
D. Morrill announced that the Open Meeting Laws Act Poster was displayed on the wall.
The community outreach committee began by handing out an informational packet to guests. The packet consisted of possible survey questions, Dr. Tenopir’s presentation, Mr. Kliment’s presentation and a definition page relating to cooperative, consolidation and unification. The packet and video of the meeting will be posted on the Creighton school website. Dr. Jim Tenopir, executive director of the NSAA, explained the difference between merging and cooping districts for extra curricular activities. When merging, all the resources, staff, etc of both districts are “married” together. When cooping, schools may combine jointly to sponsor a sport or activity. Two to four schools may coop together, and a school can coop with different schools for each activity. Dr. Tenopir also explained NSAA eligibility requirements and student transfers.
Randy Kliment, AD, shared the current and future enrollment numbers of Creighton and adjoining districts. He explained how the numbers are combined for cooping purposes and how schools get their class assignment for each activity.
Community members were allowed submit questions to Dr. Tenopir and Mr. Kliment.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Gragert moved to approve the APL bill for $3,000. Seconded by Suhr. RCV: 6-0. Motion Carried.
At 8:55 p.m., K. Morrill moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Gragert. RCV: 6-0. Motion Carried.
