September 9, 2024 Regular BOE Meeting Minutes

A regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Creighton Community School District No. 13 was held on September 9, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Library.

 

Notice of the meeting was given in advance thereof by publication in the Knox County News, as shown by the Affidavit of Publication attached to the minutes.  Notice was also posted at the City Offices, front door of the high school, and front door of the elementary school.

 

Notice of the meeting was simultaneously sent to all the members and a copy of their acknowledgment and receipt of notice and agenda is attached to these minutes.  The availability of the agenda was communicated in the advance notice as was the notice to the members of this meeting.  All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was opened to the attendance of the public.  The agenda for the meeting is attached and incorporated into these minutes.

 

President Fanta called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  He announced that the Open Meeting Laws Act Poster was displayed on the wall at the entrance.

 

Members present: Greg Kuhlman, Erik Burns, Duane Fanta, Amy Borgmann and Dixie Hanefeldt.  Kuhlman moved to excuse Josh Key.  RCV:  5-0.  Motion Carried.

 

Others Present:  Superintendent Weber, Principal Nilson, Principal Friedrich and Secretary Hoffman

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Kuhlman moved to move the agenda.  Seconded by Hanefeldt.  RCV:  5-0.  Key excused.  Motion Carried.  

 

There was no public comment.

 

Reports:

  1.  Superintendent Weber shared that all required training for staff has been completed and that all ESSER funds have been requested.  The negotiations committee will meet with the CTA in October.  The school year has been off to a great start. 
  2. Principal Friedrich shared that several safety drills have or will be completed in September.  Title teachers will be sharing information on the school wide Title program at parent teacher conferences.  Elementary enrollment is currently 173 in preschool through 6th grade.
  3. Principal Nilson reviewed a presentation on school improvement.  The official review will be the beginning of November.  Fall activities are underway and Creighton will host district play on December 3.  High school enrollment is 145 in grades 7-12.
  4. Board president Fanta thanked all the board members for attending the area membership meeting in Norfolk on September 4th.
  5. There were no committee reports.
  6. There was no correspondence.

 

The consent agenda consisted of the monthly financial report, bills, August minutes, approving CTA as the bargaining unit for the 25-26 school year, and approving the updated 24-25 master calendar with December 3rd as a no school day due to hosting District One Acts.  Burns asked to pull out the Burn’s Lumber bill.  Hanefeldt moved to approve the consent agenda pulling out the Burn’s Lumber bill.  Seconded by Kuhlman.  RCV:  5-0.  Key excused.  Motion Carried.   Hanefeldt moved to approve the Burn’s Lumber bill.  Seconded by Kuhlman.  RCV:  4-0-1.  Burns abstained.  Key excused.  Motion Carried.

 

Discussion/Action Items:   

A.          There were no changes to the budget that was discussed at the budget workshop.  Kuhlman moved to approve the 24-25 budget as presented.  Seconded by Burns.  RCV:  5-0.  Key excused.  Motion Carried.

B.  Burns moved to approve the property tax request for Creighton Community Schools as printed.  Seconded by Hanefeldt.  RCV:  5-0.  Key excused.  Motion Carried.  President Fanta then read the property tax resolution out loud.

 

C.  The board discussed attendance at upcoming conferences.

D. Due to Knox County volleyball the night of the next board meeting,  

F.  Due to Knox County volleyball the night of the next board meeting, the October board meeting will be held on Monday, October 14, at noon.


 

At 7:27 p.m., Kuhlman moved to adjourn the meeting.  Seconded by Burns.  RCV:  5-0.  Key excused.  Motion Carried.  The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, October 14, at 12:00 p.m. in the high school library.
